3 Things I can't Live Without

Posted on 09:52 by Unknown
1. My Roomba

No longer do I need to choose between vacuuming the floors or taking a shower when I'm late getting home and the guests arrive in 20 minutes!

2. My Nespresso De'Longhi Lattissima Espresso Machine

Fresh coffee, every single time! It's fast, nearly maintenance-free, and so cute in white!

3. Siri

Type on the iPhone? With Siri she types my texts, makes my phone calls, get's me to my destination, and tells me where is the closest coffee shop or gas station. She even sets my alarms... which is probably my favorite of all. So easy... I haven't set the alarm by my bed since she started sleeping with me. Sweet!

How Many Subscribers to my Blog?

Posted on 07:39 by Unknown
This is how to see your Feedburner RSS Stats. This assumes you've subscribed to your own blog of course.

  1. Go to your RSS reader (I use Google Reader so your instructions may be different) and click on your blog in the left panel so that it's the only blog showing in the reading pane.

  2. Click "Feed Settings" (see screenshot below - it's just to the top of your feed), "View details and statistics". Here you can see your number of subscribers.

Feedburner also gives stats, but it provides only estimates while the above is actual. Not sure how to use Feedburner data, but here are the links anyway. There's other good to know stuff behind these Feedburner links too.

The 'estimate' number of subscribers for your RSS feed, and more, can be found here: http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/myfeeds

Troubleshoot Feedburner here:

http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/troubleshoot

Instructions on how to create an RSS feed for your blog are behind that first link too.

Change your Facebook Default eMail Address

Posted on 09:08 by Unknown
Changing your Facebook email address is easy:  Go to your Timeline or profile page and select "About" under your contact information. You can then hide your Facebook email address from the contact page and highlight another e-mail address to be the default.

How to Disable "VAIO Care" App

Posted on 20:24 by Unknown
UPDATE 6/13/2012--

To get rid of VAIO Care, you must uninstall it. None of the disabling features below work long term.

Use the standard uninstall procedure: Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall Programs, Vaio Care, and then right-click, uninstall.

I found I also had to remove the Vaio Care and Vaio Updater items from the scheduler as well (described below).

UPDATE 11/29/2011--

Readers, see Anonymous's tip (November 29, 2011 12:26 PM) in the comments below (basically, run msconfig -> Services -> uncheck VCService to disable Vaio Care Performance Service and VCService and at startup), and then note the following (Source and thanks to:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/624062-new-sony-vaio-se-bloatware.html):

"...You can uninstall most of the bloatware through Vaio Care, except for Vaio Gate. Vaio Care itself is on the bloaty side, so first I'd use Vaio Care to uninstall any bloatware you can, then disable Vaio Care and Vaio Gate from running at startup.

If you look in Task Scheduler, there are a number of tasks related to these two applications. You can set them to "Disabled" without deleting the tasks, so you can always re-enable the tasks later if you want them for some strange reason.

Also check msconfig for any startup entries related to Vaio (Gate | Care), and disable VCService and Vaio Care Performance Service. If you later want to run Vaio Care, e.g. to check for system updates, then you can re-enable VCService before starting up Vaio Care."

ORIGINAL POST 11/20/2009:

The VAIO Care application can be configured not to start automatically when the computer starts. If you disable the VAIO Care application using this procedure, you can still manually run the application and use the tools. These instructions are from the Sony support site.

  1. Click the Start button and then click All Programs .

  2. In the All Programs menu, click the Accessories folder and then click the System Tools folder.

  3. In the System Tools folder, click Task Scheduler .

NOTE: If prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password or click Continue. [Digital QA Note: You can just right-click on Task Scheduler and select "Run as Administrator"]

  4. In the Task Scheduler window, in the left pane, click Task Scheduler Library .

    undefined

  5. In the middle pane, click VAIO Care .

  6. In the right pane, under Actions, click Disable.

    undefined

  7. undefined

    7. Close the Task Scheduler window.
